Cytokines Web Cytokine Receptor Classification according to Domain Composition

The extracellar portions of cytokine receptors are usually multidomain proteins made up of one or more so-called "modules". Here the modules types that are present in cytokine receptors are illustrated, and the receptors themselves grouped according to the modules that make up the protein. You can also get the SWISS-PROT names for the domains here.

  • c. 90 residues, with 4 or 6 disulphide bonds
  • F3
  • Fibronectin type III domain (F3)
  • FOLD - beta-sandwich immunuglobulin like
  • SWISSPROT name - FIBRONECTIN TYPE-III

  • c. 100 residues with 0 to 6 disulphide bonds
  • TR
  • Nerve growth factor (NGF) / Tumor necrosis factor (TNF) receptor superfamily domain
  • FOLD - disulphide-rich anti-parallel beta strands)
  • SWISSPROT name - TNFR-CYS
  • c. 40 residues with 6 or 8 disulphide bonds

  • Receptor composition (extra-cellular portions)
Schematic diagrams representing the domain-structure of the extra-cellular portions of the receptors are shown starting from the domain furthest from the cell-membrane and ending with the domain immediately adjacent to the cell-surface. Particular cytokine receptors with given compositions are listed with each schematic.
