The School of Nursing is
located on Trent Drive on the Duke UniversityMedical
Center campus, in close proximity to Duke Hospital, Duke
Clinics, as well as the Durham Veterans Affairs Medical
Center. The School of Nursing is fortunate to have the
majority of its facilities under one roof and on ground
level and making it handicap accessible. Hanes House,
which is directly across the breezeway from the School
of Nursing, contains additional space shared by the
School of Nursing, the Department of Community and
Family Medicine, and Duke University Health Systems
Education. Currently, 16 offices in Hanes House are
dedicated to School of Nursing faculty and staff. The
Health Systems Leadership and Outcomes division is
located in Hanes House.
The School of Nursing contains
several large classrooms, a physical
assessment/examination room, and a student computer lab.
During early 2000, the main auditorium was renovated and
now functions as a technologically enhanced classroom
with state of the art projection systems, connections
for laptop computers, and modern audio sound systems.
The physical assessment/exam room contains seven exam
stations/tables, an anesthesia machine plus other
equipment. Recently, the computers and network printers
were upgraded in the student computer lab making it a
modern, up-to-date resource for student use 24 hours per
day, 7 days per week. Students are provided magnetic
access cards to the School.
The Biological
Research Lab is located in the Bell Building,
adjacent to Duke Hospital and a short walk from the
school of nursing. For more information about research
conducted by nursing faculty and students, click

Additional space in the School
of Nursing is reserved for student use and includes a
kitchen/lounge, student study room and vending/snack
area with student copying machines. The student
kitchen/lounge contains two computers with internet
connections as well as normal lounge furniture and
kitchen appliances. The student study room also contains
two computers with internet connections. The vending
area/copying machine area is available 24 hours per day,
7 days per week.
Lastly, the School of Nursing
recently secured additional office space to support its
expanding research and education programs. The new space
will house research faculty and staff and space has been
reserved for student use/study carrels.
