Dean: Linda Rosenstock, MD The mission of the UCLA School of Public Health is to create,
disseminate, and apply pertinent knowledge to assure the conditions in
which people can be healthy. These conditions include: a favorable social,
economic, and physical environment; access to an effective preventive and
therapeutic health system; and an awareness of how to prevent disease or
disability and promote health. To fulfill its mission, the UCLA School of
Public Health will: Educate new professionals for public and private
sectors of the health system in the U.S. and internationally. Prepare
future public health researchers and educators. Provide continuing
education for practicing professionals in the public health field. Conduct
basic and applied research relevant to describing, protecting, and
improving conditions for a healthy public. Contribute knowledge,
expertise, and service to the community. The School of Public Health is a
component of the renowned UCLA Center for the Health Sciences. As part of
a world-class research university, the School shares the same campus at
UCLA's College of Letters and Science, other professional schools,
hospitals and clinics, and has used these proximities to achieve an
extraordinary level of collaboration. Here, cross disciplinary research
initiatives involve faculty from disciplines spanning the campus.
Concurrent degree programs break down the traditional departmental
barriers in a fully integrated approach to the multi-faceted issues facing
