SIXTH EUROPEAN WORKSHOP ON VIRUS EVOLUTION AND
MOLECULAR EPIDEMIOLOGY
Rega Institute for Medical Research,
Leuven, Belgium
September 4-9, 2000
- The workshop intends to give a general overview on the
phylogenetic analysis methods applied to virology. The workshop program consists of
theoretical lectures about the different methods that can be used for the
phylogenetic analyses of nucleotide and amino acid sequences and practical
sessions where the students will learn how to build and to interpret
phylogenetic trees using the major software packages for phylogenetic analysis
(PHYLIP, PAUP, PUZZLE) .
- The workshop is organized by prof. Anne-Mieke Vandamme at
the Rega Institute for Medical Research of the Katholieke Universiteit
Leuven. Twenty participants will be selected. The
deadline is 31 May 2000. The application form can
be downloaded from our site and sent back to prof. Anne-Mieke Vandamme by
emailor by post
to:
- AIDS Research Unit
- Rega Institute & University Hospitals.
- Minderbroedersstraat 10
- B-3000 Leuven
- Belgium.
- Application mustinclude a CV, a letter
including the motivation to apply and an original abstract on a recent
work of the applicant in the field of molecular virology. Participants are
expected to give a brief talk (5-10 min) based on the results described in
their abstract. Applicants that fulfil the following criteria will be
favoured:
- European Union citizenship
- immediate relevance of phylogenetic analysis for the
applicant's work
- the relevance of the abstract in the field of
virology
- A limited amount of grants are available for covering course
fees, travel costs and accomodation.
- Young researchers (up to 35) are encouraged to apply.
